What does the Gator Dugout Club do?

Promotes and supports the University of Florida Baseball Program

The Gator Dugout Club is the official booster group for the University of Florida Baseball program. As such our main objective is to encourage fan support for the Gator baseball team. One means of support is financial through our giving to a baseball scholarship.

Another form of support is by being present at home and select away games, at the SEC Baseball Tournament in Hoover, Alabama and in Omaha at the College World Series.

To help financially, the Club holds a merchandise raffle at each meeting, raffling restaurant and merchandise gift cards as well as Gator merchandise. Fifteen to twenty items are raffled every meeting except the Covered Dish Dinner.

Where does the money go?

The Gator Dugout Club realizes to support the Gator Baseball Program, it takes volunteers, effort and money. The Club has been supporting the Steve Georgiadis Scholarship Fund for more than a decade. Some of the funding comes from membership dues, some from the seven meeting raffles.

This past year, the Club has gathered more than $3,000 of raffle items including Gator Baseball merchandise and gift cards from local businesses. From these raffles, we would like to collect at least $1,000 in cash to go towards the scholarship.

The Club thanks those who give and encourages every member to participate.

What activities does Gator Dugout Club offer it’s members?

Annual Scholarship Fundraiser Golf Tournament – The Club holds an annual GDC Scholarship Golf Tournament at the Ironwood Golf Course.

SEC Tournament Package – During the season the Club sells raffle tickets to members for chance at two seats, and up to 6 nights at a hotel to the SEC baseball tournament in Hoover, AL. Four lucky people will win this chance to support the team.

General Meetings – The Club has monthly meetings except for January, June, July and August. The monthly meetings are usually on the first Monday of the month, and at the baseball stadium on selected Saturdays before home games during the season. We have a guest speaker such as former players, local sports personality, a UAA administrator, umpires and others involved in baseball in the state of Florida. Our sponsors donate items to be raffled off (usually 15-20 items are offered). The funds go toward the scholarship fund. Also, at every meeting, raffle tickets for a The SEC Tournament Package are sold.

Covered Dish Dinner and Awards meeting – Every February, the Club kicks off the new season in style with our Covered Dish Dinner with the team. The Club invites the players, coaches, team student managers and groundskeepers to dinner. Club members vote on players in several areas for awards and presents them at this dinner. The Coach introduces the team to the Club.

December Holiday Party – Club members meet for an evening of fun and fellowship.

Watching Parties – Watching parties for away SEC games are held at Beef O’Brady’s Family Sports restaurant in April and May.

Trips – When feasible, the Club organizes trips to several away games in Florida. The Club organizes a bus trip and group tickets to the Jacksonville game against FSU.

Dugout Day – Members lunch at the stadium on a Saturday near the end of the season. Members bring refreshments and the Club is recognized on the field.

Tailgates – Members congregate at the stadium and the Club provides water.

What are benefits does the Gator Dugout Club offer?

Website – A website is maintained with up-to-date Club information, membership application, Club by-laws and Board and committee contact names and addresses. The site links to minor and major league baseball sites so members can keep up with former Gator players.

Newsletter – A Club newsletter is distributed to all members giving information on upcoming events, Gator baseball news and player features.

Parents Weekend – Club members assist the baseball staff in planned events during player parents visit to Gainesville.

SEC Tournament Package – During the season the Club sells raffle tickets to members for chance at two seats, and up to 6 nights at a hotel to the SEC baseball tournament in Hoover, AL

Discounts with Local Merchants – Members showing their membership cards will receive discounts on food at local restaurants and other businesses.

Merchandise Raffle – At each general meeting Gator merchandise and restaurant gift certificates are raffled.
